Children’s Health

More and more families are turning to complementary medicine to support the health of their children as a safe and effective alternative or adjunct to conventional medical treatment. We recognise the impact that having a poorly child can have on the whole family and understand that treating the illness at a young age can prevent the condition from continuing into adulthood. Our paediatric acupuncturist, Rosie Jackson and our and homeopath, Caroline Jurdon, have been successfully offering this approach for 10 years and 20 years respectively with Caroline working in the renowned children’s health clinic, Dolphin House. In November 2022 we are also delighted to have welcomed to the clinic Anita Cassetta who practices Cranial Sacral therapy to support children and babies.

Children respond very quickly to acupuncture, with the very fine needles only needing to be inserted for a short amount of time and often only requiring one or two needles per treatment. Sometimes children are reluctant to have needles and therefore we offer other effective, non-invasive Chinese Medicine techniques. These are moxibustion, where gentle heat is applied to the points; tui na (medical massage); acupressure; and shonishin, a Japanese technique also known as ‘children’s needle’ which involves stimulating the points by tapping or rubbing. Our paediatric acupuncturist, Rosie, is able to teach some of these techniques to parents or carers to enable them to continue to help their child at home. She also offers home-visits, where often the child feels more comfortable.
